Lenoir North Carolina

Go to Estates And Condos Realty's website to search for homes for sale and Lake Norman Real Estate

Google has clicked on North Carolina as the home for its a 600 (m) million dollar data center.

The search engine giant is building what's called a ``server farm.'' It will eventually employ 210 people in a region hit hard in recent years by layoffs in the furniture and textile industries.

North Carolina will give the company almost 5 (m) million dollars as part of a total incentives package that could reach more than 100 (m) million dollars.

Google plans to build the center in Lenoir, a city of 60-thousand about 60 miles northwest of Charlotte. The average annual salary at the data center is expected to be more than 48-thousand dollars, about 20-thousand dollars more than the average salary in Caldwell County.

The recruitment of Google marks the second high-tech score for the state since 2004, when both the state and local governments gave Dell 280 (m) million dollars worth of incentives to build a computer plant in Winston-Salem.

Lenoir County NC

The land area known today as Lenoir County was first part of Bath, then Craven County, then Johnston County, and then Dobbs County and finally in 1791 Lenoir County was chartered.

Lenoir County's County Seat, Kinston, was established in 1762 as "Kingston" and today is among the oldest cities in the state of North Carolina.

The first court house in what is now Lenoir County was erected in 1779. It was a frame structure located at the corners of Queen and King Streets. This structure housed the courthouse, prison, and stocks. Today's courthouse is located at this same location.

Lenoir County's name honored a Speaker of the State Senate, General William Lenoir. General Lenoir, a hero of the Revolutionary war, was born in Brunswick County Virginia in 1751. At the age of eight the family moved outside of the city of Tarboro. In the years that followed General Lenoir was engaged in patriotic activities, which culminated in vigorous participation in the fight for America's independence.

General Lenoir was one of the original trustees of the University of North Carolina and was President of its board. General Lenoir died in 1839.

Today Lenoir County is one of 100 counties in North Carolina. It consists of 746 square miles, and Kinston remains the county seat.

The ocean breezes causing seasonal changes to be less than those experienced in the western part of the state moderate the heat of summer and the cold of winter. Occasionally snow falls but seldom lasts more than a day or two. Temperatures average 44 to 48 degrees in the winter months and rise above 80 degrees in the summer.

Rainfall in Lenoir County averages around 48 to 52 inches per year providing sufficient water for crops grown in the area.

Lenoir County has an altitude of 25 to 125 feet above sea level. This gives the citizens of Lenoir County plenty of relatively flat land for walking and bike riding; yet enough hilly terrain to allow for challenging golf courses, and beautiful landscapes.

Lenoir County currently has a population of around 60,000 people.

Lake Norman and Charlotte Restaurants

homeslakenorman.gif

Skyland Family Restaurant

Skyland Family Restaurant opened its doors in 1994 and continues to be arguably the best family restaurant in Charlotte. It was voted Best Late-Night Dining for two years in a row (2005 and 2006) by AOL's Cityguide and Creative Loafing. Accented by its humble brick exterior, upon entering, you will be greeted and sat by the host in one of our delightful seating areas. The "Family Room" with its illuminating lime-green walls, mirrors, and two-toned colored booths, reflects a more intimate European setting.

On the other side of the restaurant you will find the "Main Dining Room." Unlike its counterpart, the Main Dining Room has creamy peach walls, natural paintings and a more diverse open area. The Main Dining Room is more situated for large parties and includes a smoking section as well. Both dining areas include high-definition plasma televisions. Owner and operator, Jimmy Kakavitsas is a strong believer in giving guests great home-style cooking and focusing on excellent service. You'll often find Jimmy and his sons, Gus and Vasili, around the restaurant chatting with guests and thanking them for their patronage. Not only are the service and food great, but the atmosphere is vibrant and the prices are reasonable. Come and see us in Charlotte at 4544 South Boulevard, we are open 24 hours everyday and you will not be disappointed.

Lake Norman and South Charlotte Info

Shopping

homeslakenorman.gif

Carolina Place Mall opened in the early 1990s and is located about 12 miles south of downtown in suburban Pineville, North Carolina. Carolina Place offers over 1.1 million square feet of retail, and its proximity to the South Carolina border draws many shoppers from the Palmetto state.

Concord Mills is a sprawling retail and entertainment outlet mall about 10 miles northeast of uptown. Concord Mills has over 200 outlet stores and a 24 screen theater within its nearly one-mile interior circumference and is North Carolina's largest tourist attraction.

Huntersville NC Real Estate and Homes

Eastland Mall
was constructed in the mid-1970s as an alternative to then five-year-old SouthPark Mall, its claim to fame being an indoor skating rink in its central atrium. While SouthPark flourished and transformed itself into the region's source for high-end merchandise, Eastland experienced a general decline over the years with many stores vacating the mall. Efforts to reinvigorate the mall and surrounding area are currently being discussed.

Northlake Mall opened in 2005 and is located 8 miles north of Uptown. Northlake was built to serve the population of rapidly growing north Charlotte and University City, as well as the nearby suburbs of Davidson and Huntersville. Northlake features a variety of both upscale and conventional retailers.

SouthPark Mall, the region's most upscale shopping center, is located about 5 miles south of uptown. SouthPark has over 125 stores, many of which are unique in the Carolinas, including Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Neiman Marcus, and Kate Spade.

Charlotte is home to the NFL's Carolina Panthers, which debuted in the league in 1995. The Panthers play in Bank of America Stadium, located in Uptown. The team won the NFC Championship of the 2003-2004 NFL season when it beat the Philadelphia Eagles, 14-3, in Philadelphia. In Super Bowl XXXVIII on Feb. 1, 2004, the Panthers were defeated, 32-29, by the New England Patriots. They have been in two other NFC Championship games: in 1996 (their second year) and 2006.

Charlotte was home to the World Football League's Charlotte Hornets during 1974 and 1975. The city has also been home to two Arena Football League teams, the Charlotte Rage and Carolina Cobras. The NCAA football Meineke Car Care Bowl is played annually in December at Bank of America Stadium.

Charlotte briefly had a Major Indoor Lacrosse League team in 1996, the Charlotte Cobras. The team did not fare well, however, and after a single 0-10 season, the Cobras folded.

In 2004, Charlotte was awarded its second NBA expansion team named the Charlotte Bobcats. The team plays in the Charlotte Bobcats Arena, which opened in fall 2005 in downtown Charlotte.

From 1988 to 2002, Charlotte hosted an NBA franchise named the Charlotte Hornets. The franchise relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana in 2002 after bitter animosity between the team's fans and principal owner George Shinn led to slumping attendance and ill feelings towards the Hornets.

The WNBA Charlotte Sting had played in Charlotte since 1997 and left in 2006. Charlotte is home to the Charlotte Eagles of the United Soccer Leagues and plays host to the annual Wachovia Championship, an increasingly prestigious stop on the PGA Tour.

Charlotte is the hub of stock car racing, with major races being held at nearby Lowe's Motor Speedway, considered by most fans and participants in the sport to be NASCAR's 'home track'. A vast majority of NASCAR teams and race shops are located within 40 miles of Charlotte, and most NASCAR drivers maintain a residence in or near the city. Seventy-three percent of American motorsports employees are based within two hours of downtown Charlotte. The NASCAR Hall of Fame is set to open in Charlotte in early 2009.

Baseball has a long, rich history in the Queen City, dating back to 1901 when the Charlotte Hornets were formed. The Triple-A Charlotte Knights, the top minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, currently call the Charlotte area home (the team's stadium is located in nearby Fort Mill, South Carolina).

Charlotte is on the list of cities that the Florida Marlins are considering for relocation; team officials are expected to visit the city in late February or early March 2006 to discuss a move with city leaders and consider a plan to build a privately-funded stadium downtown. But city leaders stated as of April that they would not fund or support any attempt to bring the Florida Marlins to Charlotte.

Via the Hartford Wolf Pack and Binghamton Senators of the AHL, the Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL are a farm team for the NHL's New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators respectively. The Charlotte Checkers now play at the new Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Additionally, Charlotte is also home to a professional inline hockey team, the The Charlotte Outlawz.

Charlotte is home to the headquarters of the Big South Conference despite having no schools playing in the Big South (although near-by schools Winthrop University, from Rock Hill, South Carolina (full), and Gardner-Webb University, from Boiling Springs, North Carolina (football only) are members).

Lake Norman Information, Boating, Fishing, Access

Huntersville NC Real Estate and Homes

homeslakenorman.gif

Cowans Ford Dam created the largest manmade body of fresh water in North Carolina when it dammed the Catawba River in 1963. The total length of the facility is 7,387 feet, including more than a mile of earthen dam. The concrete portion of the dam is 1,279 feet long and 130 feet high.

Lake Norman is an "inland sea" with 520 miles of shoreline and a surface area of more than 32,475 acres. Named after former Duke Power president Norman Cocke, Lake Norman is nearly as large as the other ten lakes on the Catawba combined.

Full pond elevation at Lake Norman is 760 feet. The water of Lake Norman is used in two ways to provide electricity to the Piedmont Carolinas. It is used to power the generators at Cowans Ford Hydroelectric Station and by Marshall Steam Station and McGuire Nuclear Station to cool the steam that drives the turbines. This steam is condensed back to water so it can be pumped back through the plants and used again.

The lake provides a dependable supply of water to Lincoln County, Davidson, Mooresville, Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Huntersville, North Carolina.

Duke Energy partnered with the state in the establishment of the Lake Norman State Park. In addition, Duke Energy has built two bank fishing areas and eight public boating access areas along the shoreline. One site is leased to Mecklenburg County and one to Iredell County.

Overview

The Huntersville Town Commissioners adopted our current zoning ordinance in 1996, and further modified it in 2003 to incorporate R (Rural) and TR (Transitional Residential) zonings. The Huntersville Zoning Ordinance guides the growth of the community based upon principles of New Urbanism. These principles place great emphasis on building types, street design, and pedestrians, rather than more typical codes which dictate inflexible lot sizes, rigid separation of land uses, and meager public spaces.

Huntersville intends for its zoning ordinance to be understandable and accessible to its citizenry. For this reason, our ordinance is written in plain English with district names that make sense. The concept of a "Town Center District" or "Neighborhood Center District", for example, is easier to grasp than more vague district names such as "R-17MF" or "MX-5 PUD".

To familiarize you with our code, the links above will take you to the "intent" section of each of our eighteen zoning districts.

Zoning District Intents
R Rural District.

"An environment without perceivable boundaries is amorphous, indistinguishable from its surroundings, and generally placeless."
----Alex Krieger, PLACES, Winter 1996, (70)

The Rural District is provided to encourage the development of neighborhoods and rural compounds that set aside significant natural vistas and landscape features for permanent conservation. Density of development is regulated on a sliding scale; permitted densities rise with increased open space preservation. Development typologies associated with the Rural District are farms, the single house, the conservation subdivision, the farmhouse cluster, and the residential neighborhood.

TR Transitional Residential District.

The Transitional Residential District serves as a bridge between rural zones and more urbanized development. It is provided to encourage the development of neighborhoods and rural compounds that set aside significant natural vistas and landscape features for permanent conservation. Density of development is regulated on a sliding scale; permitted densities rise with increased open space preservation. Development typologies associated with the Transitional District are farms, the single house, the conservation subdivision, the farmhouse cluster, and the residential neighborhood.

GR General Residential District.

The General Residential District is coded to permit the completion and conformity of conventional residential subdivisions already existing or approved in sketch plan form by the Huntersville Board of Commissioners prior to the effective date of these regulations or by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Commission under the prior jurisdiction of Mecklenburg County. The application of the General Residential District is not intended for development projects in the Huntersville jurisdiction which are initiated after the effective date of this ordinance (November 19, 1996).

NR Neighborhood Residential District.

"...towns offer an important lesson in both architecture and citizenship: buildings, like citizens, warrant their idiosyncrasies so long as they behave civilly toward their neighbors..." ---Alex Krieger, PLACES, Winter 1996, (67)

The Neighborhood Residential District provides for residential infill development surrounding the traditional town center and its logical extensions. This district also provides for town-scaled residential development within walking distance (generally ½ mile) of satellite village centers, identified on the Land Development Plan. Streets in the Neighborhood Residential District must be interconnected, according to Article 5, Streets, and Urban Open Space provided according to Article 7. A range of housing types is encouraged. Low-intensity business activity is permitted in mixed-use buildings at residential scale, according to locational criteria. The intensity to which permitted uses may be built is regulated by the building type which corresponds to the use.

NC Neighborhood Center District.

"Attachment to the area and the sense of place that it imparts expand with the individual's walking familiarity with it. In such locales, parents and their children range freely. The streets are not only safe, they invite human connection". ---Ray Oldenburg, The Great Good Place, (210)

The Neighborhood Center District is provided for the location of shops, services, small workplaces, civic and residential buildings central to a neighborhood or grouping of neighborhoods and within walking distance of dwellings. A neighborhood center shall be developed on an interconnected pattern of streets and is limited to approximately ¼ mile in radius. Uses in the neighborhood center will have a primary market area of 1 mile and buildings compatible with surrounding residences. If a neighborhood center is the focus of a planned transit stop, it should be designed to serve the neighborhood’s residential base plus transit riders. The Huntersville Land Development Plan shows the general location of new neighborhood centers.

TC Town Center District.

"Place: a piece of the whole environment that has been claimed by feelings" ---Alan Gussow, Placeways: A Theory of the Human Environment, (209)

The Town Center District provides for revitalization, reuse, and infill development in Huntersville’s traditional town center. A broad array of uses is expected in a pattern which integrates shops, restaurants, services, work places, civic, educational, and religious facilities, and higher density housing in a compact, pedestrian-oriented environment. The Town Center anchors the surrounding residential neighborhoods while also serving the broader community. The district is coded to accommodate the higher overall intensity of development required to support a rail transit station. It is to be expected that the Town Center District will be expanded over time through the zoning change process to an approximate ½ mile radius to meet growth in demand for downtown facilities and services.

HC Highway Commercial District.

The Highway Commercial District is established to provide primarily for auto-dependent uses in areas not amenable to easy pedestrian access and a comfortable pedestrian environment. It is expected that the Highway Commercial District will serve not only the Huntersville Community, but interstate travelers as well. Because of the scale and access requirements of uses in this category, they often cannot be compatibly integrated within the Town Center or Neighborhood Center Districts. Development at district boundaries must provide a compatible transition to uses outside the district; property boundaries adjacent to freeways or expressways will require a 50-foot foliated buffer yard; and frontages on major or minor arterials will require formal street tree planting.

CI Campus Institutional District.

The campus institutional district is established to provide for large institutional complexes which are already in place and for new institutional complexes on 15 acres or more which, because of the scale of the buildings or the nature of the use, cannot be fully integrated into the fabric of the community. Campus districts, unlike town districts, are buffered from neighboring properties; nonetheless, buildings in the campus district that front a town street shall relate to the street as prescribed by building type. Campus districts are intended primarily for existing institutions, as most new institutional projects can and should be designed within the fabric of the town.

CB Corporate Business District

"Any serious move by a local economic development organization goes hand in hand with an effort to identify and describe the characteristics of that locality which set it apart and give it a distinct identity". ---Daniel Kennis, Community and the Politics of Place, (88)

The Corporate Business district is established to provide for large business or light industrial uses and parks which are already in place and for new business or light industrial uses or parks which, because of the scale of the buildings or the nature of the use, cannot be fully integrated into the fabric of the community. The predominant use is that of the workplace. The corporate district, unlike town districts, is buffered from neighboring properties; nonetheless, buildings in the corporate district that front a town street shall relate to the street as prescribed by building type. Individual workplace buildings oriented to the street and scaled for compatibility with the surrounding environment are also permitted in the Highway Commercial district and, on a smaller scale, in the Town Center, Neighborhood Center, and TND Districts. Such workplaces should not be reclassified to the Corporate Business District. The corporate district is reserved for uses which require very large buildings and/or large parking and loading facilities such as warehouse/distribution operations.

SP Special Purpose District.

The Special Purpose District is established to accommodate uses that may constitute health or safety hazards, have greater than average impacts on the environment, or diminish the use and enjoyment of nearby property by generation of noise, smoke, fumes, odors, glare, commercial vehicle traffic, or similar nuisances. Because uses permitted in the SP District vary as to their impacts on the community, they may likewise vary as to effective mitigating conditions. Therefore the SP district exists as a General Zoning District but will frequently benefit from application as a Parallel Conditional Zoning District.

TND-U and TND-R Traditional Neighborhood Development Districts.

The Traditional Neighborhood Development Districts are provided for the development of new neighborhoods and the revitalization or extension of existing neighborhoods, which are structured upon a fine network of interconnecting pedestrian oriented streets and other public spaces. Traditional Neighborhood Developments (TND’s) offer a mixture of housing types and prices, prominently sited civic or community building(s), and stores/offices/workplaces to provide a balanced mix of activities. Religious institution and pre-school/elementary school facilities are encouraged. A Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) has a recognizable center and clearly defined edges; optimum size is a quarter mile from center to edge. A TND-U is urban in form, is an extension of the existing developed area of the town, and complies with density measures of the Neighborhood Residential (NR) District. Minimum size of a TND-U is 40 acres. A TND-R will resemble a rural village, will usually be surrounded by a rural landscape, and must comply with the density limits and bonuses of the Rural and Transitional District. Minimum size of a TND-R is 65 acres.

VS Passenger Vehicle Sales District.

The Passenger Vehicle Sales District is established to provide large accommodations for the sale of new and used passenger vehicles and trucks not exceeding the size, weight, and configuration of the medium duty truck standard. Therefore minimum size for a VS district shall be 15 acres. It is intended for use in areas not amenable to easy pedestrian access, where a comfortable pedestrian environment is unlikely to be achieved. It is expected that the Passenger Vehicle Sales District will serve the passenger and small business vehicle needs of those in the Huntersville Community and in the larger region. Because of the scale of buildings and parking, and the access requirements of uses in this category, they cannot be compatibly integrated within the Town Center, Neighborhood Center, or smaller scale Highway Commercial Districts. At district boundaries, compatible transitions must be provided by the use of landscaping and/or walls. Property boundaries adjacent to freeways or expressways will require a 50-foot foliated buffer yard and frontages on major or minor arterials will require formal street tree planting.

TOD-R Transit-Oriented Development-Residential.

The transit-oriented residential district is established to support higher density residential communities that include a rich mix of retail, restaurant, service, and small employment uses within a pedestrian village format. Land consuming uses, such as large lot housing and large retail outlets are excluded from this district. The TOD-R may be located on developable and redevelopable parcels generally found within the ½ mile catchment area of designated rapid transit station sites. Nothing in these regulations shall preclude application of the TOD-R beyond the ½ mile radius when site-specific development plans demonstrate efficient resident access to a rapid transit station. The district establishes a primarily residential village within a 10-minute walk of a M.I.S. designated transit station that serves a residential population of sufficient size to constitute an origin and destination for purposes of rapid transit service.

TOD-E Transit-Oriented Development-Employment.

The transit-oriented employment district is established to accommodate general office uses and office support services in a highly pedestrianized setting. General office, characterized by 40 to 70 employees per acre, is the predominant use. Uses that employ relatively few workers, such as warehousing and distribution, are excluded from this district. The TOD-E may be located on developable parcels within the ½ mile catchment area of rapid transit stations. The district establishes an employment node within a 10-minute walk of a M.I.S. designated transit station that serves a workforce of sufficient size to constitute a destination for purposes of rapid transit service.

MH-O Manufactured Home Overlay.
The Manufactured Home Overlay District is established to provide for existing and proposed neighborhoods which include or are proposed to include manufactured homes. The requirements herein are intended to ensure compatibility with existing housing stock by imposing supplemental appearance standards for manufactured housing. The Manufactured Home Overlay district may be applied to tracts zoned NR, GR, TR, or R. It supplements the range of residential types permitted in the underlying district while limiting some accessory uses. For existing neighborhoods, the MH Overlay may be established by map adoption; for proposed neighborhoods, the MH Overlay district requires zoning approval accompanied by a detailed development plan and supporting materials.

MIL-O Mountain Island Lake Watershed Overlay.

The intent of the Mountain Island Lake Watershed Overlay District is to provide for the protection of public water supplies as required by the N.C. Water Supply Watershed Classification and Protection Act (G.S. 143-214.5) and regulations promulgated there under. The Mountain Island Lake Watershed Overlay may be applied in any zoning district. The Mountain Island Lake Watershed Overlay District supplements the regulations of the underlying zoning district within the Mountain Island Lake Watershed Protection Area to ensure protection of public drinking water supplies. All regulations for the underlying district shall continue to remain in effect for properties classified under the Mountain Island Lake Watershed Overlay District.

LN-O Lake Norman Watershed Overlay.

The intent of the Lake Norman Watershed Overlay District is to provide for the protection of public water supplies as required by the N.C. Water Supply Watershed Classification and Protection Act (G.S. 143-214.5) and regulations promulgated there under. The Lake Norman Watershed Overlay may be applied in any zoning district. The Lake Norman Watershed Overlay District supplements the regulations of the underlying zoning district within the Lake Norman Watershed Protection Area to ensure protection of public drinking water supplies. All other uses and regulations for the underlying district shall continue to remain in effect for properties classified under the Lake Norman Watershed Overlay District.

homeslakenorman.gif

Lake Norman State Park At Lake Norman State Park, fun is just a matter of scale. On one hand, there's the largest man-made lake in the state, Lake Norman. When filled to capacity, its surface area is 32,510 acres with a shoreline of 520 miles and a main channel 34 miles in length - thus its nickname, the "Inland Sea." Thirteen miles of the shoreline are in the state park, which provides boating access. On the other hand, the park boasts its own 33-acre lake where fishing and boating are enjoyed. And with hiking trails, picnic areas, interpretive programs and campgrounds, there's more to Lake Norman State Park than merely water.

Park Hours November-February, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. March and October, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. April, May, September, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. June-August, 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Closed Christmas Day Park office hours: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays Closed state holidays

Boating Pedal boats and canoes are available for rent. They are available daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the summer and are available from noon to 4:15 p.m. on weekends in spring and fall. Privately owned boats and watercraft may access Lake Norman from the boat launch area located at the south end of the park. Use of the area is free, but cars must leave the parking area by the park's closing time.

Camping Family Tent/Trailer Camping: Tent pads, picnic tables and grills are available at 33 sites on a first-come, first-served basis for a fee. Occupancy is limited to one family or six people per site. Park gates are locked at the posted closing hours. Campers may not leave the park after closing or before 8 a.m. except in an emergency.

Group Tent Camping Walk-in group campsites may be reserved by organized groups for a fee. Campers without reservations must confirm site availability with park staff before occupying a site. No more than 25 people are permitted on each site. Drinking water and restrooms are available nearby; picnic tables and a fire ring are provided at each site.
Community Building A community building located near the group camping area may be rented for events. The facility has a large meeting room, kitchen facilities, restrooms and a fireplace. The building may be occupied between 8 a.m. and a half hour before park closing. Contact the park office to reserve the facility.

Education and Events Rangers hold regularly scheduled educational and interpretive programs about Lake Norman State Park. To arrange a special exploration of Lake Norman State Park for your group or class, contact the park office. Educational materials about Lake Norman State Park have been developed for grades 4-6 and are correlated to North Carolina's competency-based curriculum in science, social studies, mathematics and English/language arts. The Lake Norman program introduces students to aquatic organisms. The program also focuses on water quality and resource management, demonstrating how watersheds should be managed to maintain healthy aquatic ecosystems and drinking water. Accompanying the program is a teacher's booklet and workshop, free of charge to educators.

Fishing Popular game fish in Lake Norman include crappie, bluegill and yellow perch, as well as striped, largemouth and white bass. The smaller park lake also has some choice fishing spots. Regulations of the NC Wildlife Resources Commission apply for both lakes.

Hiking Alder Trail: Begin this easy .8-mile loop at the parking lot near the swim beach. The trail crosses the picnic area, circles the peninsula between Norwood and Hicks creeks, and then skirts the edge of the lake. Take a short side path to the dam and view the spillway and gates that control the lake's water level before returning to the trailhead. Lake Shore Trail: The trailhead for this moderate but lengthy 6.7-mile trail is at the parking lot near the group camping area, but the trail may also be entered at several other points. Approximately a half mile from the trailhead, venture right or left for a loop around the peninsula bordered by Lake Norman and Hicks Creek. The trail follows the iakeshore, passes the family campground and returns to the trailhead. Take the Short Turn Trail for a shorter hike of 3.9 miles.

Hiking is also allowed on the Itusi Trail, a mountain bicycle trail. See the description for this trail in the mountain biking section below.
Mountain Biking Itusi Trail: Designed, built and maintained by volunteers, this 4.2-mile mountain bicycle trail winds through mature hardwood forests and offers a unique mountain bicycling experience. Novices as well as accomplished riders will enjoy the gentle but lengthy climbs of this single track trail. As volunteers continue their efforts to extend the trail, it will eventually cover a minimum of 10 miles. To protect the Itusi Trail from damage, the trail will be closed whenever conditions are too wet to allow riders. Accordingly, riders should contact the park prior to arrival to confirm that the trail is open.

Picnicking One of Lake Norman's two picnic areas is near the swimming area on a ridge overlooking the beach. Tables, grills and drinking water are provided. Another picnic area is located near the park entrance. Picnic tables are scattered throughout the woods. Picnic shelter areas available at each area and may be reserved for free. Restrooms are also provided at each area.

Swimming A lakefront swimming area and beach are located near the southernmost picnic area. Lifeguards may be present from 10 a.m. -5:15 p.m. daily from early June through early August, but call the park before your visit if you need to confirm that a lifeguard will be on duty.

Mooresville NC New Homes. Lake Norman North carolina

Lake Norman NC Real Estate and Homes

homeslakenorman.gif

236 homes approved for Mooresville

A 236-home subdivision is on the way off N.C. 3 near Rocky River Road, bringing more growth to a new Mooresville development hot spot.

The largely rural Coddle Creek Road corridor along N.C. 3 southeast of town is fast becoming suburban with new homes and new schools planned.

The nearly two-hour debate Tuesday night by the Mooresville Town Board whether to allow the subdivision centered on concerns about how the development would impact the rapidly changing area.

Commissioners for the project requested that the developer take extra steps to address traffic concerns and to grade land donated for a park.

Commissioners against the project said it would threaten area farms and be a public safety hazard because of nearby electric fences to corral livestock.

Mayor Bill Thunberg broke a tie on the board to allow the project, temporarily called Rocky River Road subdivision.
