236 homes approved for Mooresville
A 236-home subdivision is on the way off N.C. 3 near Rocky River Road, bringing more growth to a new Mooresville development hot spot.
The largely rural Coddle Creek Road corridor along N.C. 3 southeast of town is fast becoming suburban with new homes and new schools planned.
The nearly two-hour debate Tuesday night by the Mooresville Town Board whether to allow the subdivision centered on concerns about how the development would impact the rapidly changing area.
Commissioners for the project requested that the developer take extra steps to address traffic concerns and to grade land donated for a park.
Commissioners against the project said it would threaten area farms and be a public safety hazard because of nearby electric fences to corral livestock.
Mayor Bill Thunberg broke a tie on the board to allow the project, temporarily called Rocky River Road subdivision.
